PPG Industries
Colloids, Polymers and Surfaces Laboratory
A unique part of
the CPS Program is the PPG Industries CPS Laboratory, which is used
for instruction and as a central facility for research. The lab is designed
to acquaint students with experimental techniques used in the study
and characterization of colloids, polymers, and surfaces. The hands-on
laboratory experience offered in the 3000 sq. ft. facility is accomplished
using 27 experiments and demonstrations. CPS lab courses are offered
every semester and have an average enrollment of 25-30 students per
semester.
The CPS Lab provides
training for use of its facilities for about 40 students per year in
addition to those formally enrolled in lab courses. These students include
MS and PhD students, as well as undergraduates, working on independent
research projects for most of the departments in the colleges of science
and engineering at Carnegie Mellon.
