Seiner Lecture Series: This semi-annual event commenorates the contributions of Jerome Seiner to the CPS program. Through his position at PPG Industries, Jerry contributed to the initiation and the growth of the CPS Program at CMU. The technical lecture is followed by a luncheon for the CMU Complex Fluids community and members of Jerry's family.

2008 Seiner Lecture: On February 28, 2008, Dr. Scott Milner of Penn State University, formerly of ExxonMobil Corporate research, gave a lecture on finding the basic physics problems in industrial engineering.

2005 Seiner Lecture: On May 4, 2005 the CPS program held the third "Seiner Lecture". Dr. Matthew Lynch of Proctor & Gamble gave an exciting and timely lecture, "Polymer Induced Gelation of Dispersed "soft" Colloidal Dispersions ".

2003 Seiner Lecture: On May 15, 2003 the CPS program held the second "Seiner Lecture". Dr. Ian Morrison of Cabot Laboratories gave an exceptional lecture, "Ions and Charged Particles in Nonpolar Media".

Lab Dedication and Seiner Lecture

The new PPG Industries Colloids, Polymers & Surfaces Laboratory

On May 15, 2001 the CPS program celebrated the dedication of a new laboratory. Funds donated by the PPG Industries Foundation allowed for the renovation of one of the CPS laboratories. The "PPG Industries Colloids, Polymers and Surfaces Laboratory" officially joined the facilities of the Center for Complex Fluids Engineering after almost a year of construction. The laboratory features updated fume hoods, wet chemistry facilities and HVAC. Laboratory benches were designed to be modular so that the laboratory can be used for the CPS lab courses and larger outreach programs.

Seiner Lecture

Ken Niederst of PPG Industries, presenting the Seiner Lecture

This date also marked the first "Seiner Lecture", an event commemorating the contributions of Jerome Seiner to the CPS program. Through his position at PPG Industries, Jerry contributed to the initiation and the growth of the CPS Program at CMU. Dr. Ken Niederst of PPG Industries gave the first Seiner lecture, "Oxygen Barrier Coatings". The lecture was followed by a reception attended by members of Jerry's family, representatives from PPG Industries and the CMU community.

CPS Luncheon

CPS alumni at the CPS luncheon

In June 2001, CMU hosted the ACS Colloids and Surface Science Division annual meeting. In conjunction with this event, a luncheon was held for alumni and friends of the CPS program. We were excited to see the number of alumni that attended, and Rose and Annette were happy to show off the new facilities.
